Indians and the White Man were friends at first, Via. They were not enemies at first.

Christopher Columbus didn't know where he was going, he didn't know where he was when he got there and he didn't know where he had been when he got back. So his leadership qualities stand in question. To top it all off he was a johnny-come-lately as this continent was visited by a long list of people before good old Chris even thought of sailing a ship. All histories tend to leave a good bit out. History is written, generally, by the victors.

Early histories did establish that "little wanton" Pocahontas befriended John Smith and the Jamestown colony. Pocahontas often went to the settlement and played games with the boys there.
Now that sounds pretty darn friendly to me,
When the colonists were starving, "every once in four or five days, Pocahontas with her attendants brought him [Smith] so much provision that saved many of their lives that else for all this had starved with hunger."
...ahh bless her good heart. Pocahontas ...and a toast ...to Johnny-come-lately SmithPosts: 1972 | Registered: Jul 2003

So the red man musta not been so violent toward his white brethern after all. Sounds like Pocohontas was doing her part to be friendly with men.....but in all seriousness, the indian or red man culture was vastly different from what the puritan whites were use to. Lets not judge too quickly or too harshley.

Did you know that in the old eskimo tradition; it was a curtesy for a male visitor to bed his hosts wife?

Well, we live in Indian Territory, and it's really great! So much history, and many people who were born in the area have Indian Roots.
My Mom's Family have these roots. While I am adopted, I respect the Native Americans here. In fact, I have adopted some of their beliefs such as not harming nature.
I have found that if you respect the animals, insects, etc, in nature, they won't bother you at all.

My only known connection to the native indian was through Lew Wetsel and that wasn't as a blood relative. One of my ancestors teamed up with Wetsel for a period of time. Not certain that was anything, much, to brag about.

Now, now, johnee, we all know that ice and snow are very good for a headache. One method of getting rid of some headaches is to bury your face into snow for 5 minutes. Seriously; even migraine sufferers have found relief. Next time you have a headache have somebody plaster you in the face with a soft snowball. Sometimes it even opens closed sinus passages. But the story just goes to show why eskimos didn't even have a word for "war".

the main problem with understanding early american history and the native americans is the sheer ignorance and gullibility of those who care not to dwell on it and prefer the fairy tales instead.
almost every single treaty signed between various state and/or english sanctioned governmental authorities was reneged upon by the white man. this became fairly understood by the staunchest chieftans who remained wary until their eventual demise. the troublesome tribes were often those who didn't want to play ball in a game stacked against them. it wasn't just pocahontas who was led to england to be fetted and bribed with wares, but many a chief who took to the sails out of their own courage, and perhaps out of their own greed as well.
same old game. coerce a leader of a country or nation state to do your bidding, in the name of the corporation. then let him deal with the internal problems.
question: if you were a landowning farmer with crops in the ground and another band of farmers came along and stole your crops or burned your fields to make you leave your land, what would you do?
one might easily forget that there were two colonies here in the 1600's, not counting the french and spanish colonies. to lump the political situations as pertains to the natives from one geographic area with the others is downright idiotic.
as an aside i'd suggest reading byrd's "secret diaries" or learning about the difference between a red bolling and a blue bolling. baby steps, but steps nonetheless.
enjoy those turkey sandwiches.

On Headaches Doc I find BC powders are far faster than aspirin and easier on the stomach. I also learned some time ago that vitamin C will intensify the effect of aspirin. Also, sometimes a strong dose of Baking Soda will stop a headache by itself. Most people do not realize that many headaches start in the stomach and your stomach does not even have to be queasy or upset to do it. I often use the Baking Soda and follow it with a BC. Other powders are called Stanbach and Goody.
